Welcome to any coach anywhere these days.  There are a number of reasons:

1) Tactical, as already discussed.

2) To avoid controversy.  Injuries are a funny thing as there are
varying degrees of injury and each injury then mean different recovery
time for different people.  Give a date that they don't make, the same
sports talk radio guys/columnists are all over the coach or trainer
for that.  Best to be vague.

3)  HIPPA regulations.  Coaches have to be careful what they say, by
law, since it is a medical condition.  This is new in the past 5-10
years.
