In the late 90s I would have been absolutely thrilled to have an average QB.
The best we got in those days was Erik Kramer (for like 1 1/2 years) and
Dave Krieg.

That's misrepresenting things, too. The Broncos dumped Griese, then went
looking for another QB and beat the Bears to Plummer (leaving us with ...
arrrrgggg). It's not like, oh Plummer's available, he's an upgrade. No,
Shanahan got frustrated with him -- particularly in the playoffs -- and
dumped him.

Oh, whatever. The fans were expecting Marino and accepted nothing less than
great? Marino had had like four crappy years before that and had some awful
QBs after that. You're grasping at straws here.
Look, I don't think Griese is bad. He's a known commodity. If Rex gets into
a playoff game and really struggles, he could be the perfect second-half
remedy. The guy is an old pro and does not need game time to be ready. He
gets practice time, and his only job is to be ready to step in on a moment's
notice. We don't need to "see what he's got." We know what he's got. We need
to milk Rex until the last minute, and if he can't get it done, fine, put
Griese in.
But I know Rex can get it done. The only question is whether he will at the
most important time. It hasn't been terribly important in weeks.
