I believe he views it as being loyal to a friend.  FWIW I remember (a long
time ago now) KCS making some terrible comments about Frank's religious
beliefs.  Awful things I would have never dared approach even online.  The
fact that Frank can see past it and forgive him speaks well of him.  The
fact that it may have made him feel obligated to deflect criticism away from
Kevin's angry way of dealing with people on the list doesn't (and I have
told him that directly).
