It sure seems to me the front office should discuss this with him. Basically,
offer him a 4-5 year contract valued a average starting dollars for a
starting CB. This is less than he would get if he was a free agent right
now, but it also gives him the security he wants and shares the risk of
an injury or set back on the playing field evenly between him and the
Bears. If he continues to perform at a pro bowl level, the Bears get a
bargain. If he gets injured and doesn't play again, he at least got
enough money to last him the rest of his life and the Bears did the
right thing.
I did read an article this morning that they are looking for a new 1 year
deal. The Bears should absolutely not do that. They need to get something
out of tearing up the contract.
