What excites me and makes more confident is the fact that Josh called the
Bears and said "This is where I want to play, I can kick for you and make
you better.".....and they signed him. They liked his confidence. Josh had
a couple big misses from 50 or so last year for FGs, but I liked the fact
that he made it a habit of putting kickoffs through the goalposts! The kid
has a strong leg, but needs to work on accuracy from 50. Hell of a kickoff
guy, and you bet I'm excited to see how much better he makes the Bears!

Subject: [CBFF] ESPNi: Josh Huston (Scouts Inc.)
| (He's the top rated kicker by Scouts. I know Pat must be excited.)
|
| Strengths: Huston is an excellent kickoff guy, registering 54
| touchbacks in 77 opportunities and is a weapon in this capacity. He is
| a taller kicker with long levers and the ability to really drive the
| football. Is able to handle poor weather conditions. He handled taking
| over for an outstanding kicker-Nike Nugent-extremely well and with
| maturity. He can also serve as a backup punter in the NFL.
|
| Weaknesses: Has only been a starting kicker for one season and has not
| proven that he can continually be counted on to make clutch kicks year
| in and year out. He was only five of ten from outside of 40 yards in
| 2005 and had two kicks blocked. Needs to work on getting better lift
| with his field goals.
|
| Overall: Huston is a sixth year player that backed up Mike Nugent-now
| with the Jets-for four seasons, although he alternated with Nugent to
| some degree in 2001, scoring 18 points that season and handling the
| majority of the kickoff duties. He received the extra year of
| eligibility after missing significant time in both 2000 (knee) and
| 2002 (hip) with injuries. After finally becoming the starter in 2005,
| Huston shined scoring 110 points and hitting 22 of 28 field goals.
| Houston has limited experience but he showed enough leg strength and
| accuracy on field goals in 2005, as well as upside as a kickoff return
| specialist, to warrant late-round consideration in the 2006 draft.
