You know the end is near when...

... profootballtalk.com is mentioned as a source for a story in a
reputable publication.  Such was the case when I went to the Chicago
Tribune's website this morning and read a story by K.C. Johnson that
the Bears current Director of Pro Personnel is in the running for the
Texans' GM opening.

In the second paragraph I read the words:

The national Web site profootballtalk.com reported DePaul would be in
the next wave of candidates.

Which was followed by me falling out of my chair.

For those who don't know much about profootballtalk.com, their rumor
mill editor, Mike Florio, has a history of posting very entertaining,
but not always accurate musings about the NFL.  He's the NFL
equivalent to the Inquirer.  There was a time when Mr. Florio had a
bit of a stiffy for the Bears.  I would often head to their website to
read the words, "Our moles in Chicago tell us..", which would then be
followed by some outlandish claim that never came to fruition.

At one point, I challenged Mr. Florio's credibility via email.  His
defense to me was that he was good friends with ESPN's Len Pasquarelli
and often called him Len Pastabelly.  Not sure what that had to do
with anything.

Be careful K.C.  Using Florio as a "legitmate" source of information
could get you into trouble!
