That call is really up to the editor. Which does not say very good things
about the Trib's sports desk. This whole thing is very, very thin. "One
league source said Houston is considering DePaul"... really, what does that
mean? That they haven't ruled out every personnel director who's on his way
up? Duh.
This is not getting off-the-record info and using a site to back your claim
up. This is, "Oh, crap, profootballtalk.com thinks he's leaving, so we
better call and see if there's the slightest chance he's on someone's first
list!" And that is why they HAVE to credit the site. But they don't have to
run a story, and they probably shouldn't. That's just sad.
By the way, what is a national Web site? Are there some that can only be
accessed from the same town?
