Your situation is the ultimate fantasy tease (see article below). You
could start Alexander and risk getting 0 points or sit him and at least
get a few points. Obviously playing Alexander is the highest risk/reward
decision considering who you have on your bench and that you're
desperately needing a win.
Play Alexander. Caveat for my recommendation is this advice is coming
from the last place coach.

MVP Alexander, Hasselbeck will be game-time decisions vs. 49ers
KIRKLAND, Wash. -- The 49ers won't know until Sunday whether they will
be facing league MVP Shaun Alexander
<http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/187382> and Pro Bowl
quarterback Matt Hasselbeck
<http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/12429> when they play
the Seattle Seahawks in San Francisco.
Coach Mike Holmgren said Friday that he believes Alexander and
Hasselbeck are "capable of playing" against the 49ers, "but we're going
to have to see how it all sorts itself out.
"I will do that on Sunday," he said.
Holmgren had said on Wednesday that he would know by Friday whether his
star running back and quarterback would play.
Alexander practiced this week for the first time since he broke his left
foot during a game against the New York Giants on Sept. 24. Hasselbeck
practiced all week for the first time since he sprained a ligament in
his right knee against Minnesota on Oct. 22.
Reporters were allowed to watch both of them practice Friday, but were
prohibited from reporting on how much each played with the starting
offense.
On Thursday, 49ers coach Mike Nolan said his team was preparing as if
both Alexander and Hasselbeck would start. He added that his team is
already familiar with their backups, Maurice Morris and Seneca Wallace
-- thanks to the Seahawks' 41-3 win the last time these teams met on
Dec. 11, 2005, in Seattle.
"They got so far ahead that -- unfortunately for us -- they were able to
put (them) in the game," Nolan said.
Earlier in the week, Alexander split time with Morris on the starting
unit. Alexander looked fluid cutting on a foot that X-rays this week
showed remains cracked in the fourth metatarsal.
After a full workout Wednesday, the Seahawks rested Alexander some
during Thursday's drills. The 2005 NFL rushing leader was back on the
field Friday.
"He looks good," fullback Mack Strong said after Friday's practice. "He
looked great out there, running hard, hitting the holes. He looks like
his old self."
But Alexander said he will be fine with whether or not he plays Sunday.
"I'm not an anxious person," Alexander said. "I was always taught zeal
without knowledge is foolishness."
Hasselbeck practiced exclusively with the scout team on Wednesday and
Thursday. Wednesday, he limped noticeably as the drills wore on.
Thursday he appeared more mobile and comfortable.
Pro Bowl center Robbie Tobeck (flu), right tackle Sean Locklear (high
left ankle sprain) and cornerback Kelly Herndon (left hamstring) will
also be game-time decisions.
