1) It looked to me like the Seattle defense got a handle on the fact that
the Bears like to go to their TEs and FBs. Still, they did a poor job on
Clark despite John Madden's point about him only being in to catch passes.
They did try to key a bit on McKee but he still managed a catch or two.
Eventually teams are going to catch up with this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
Teams may very well catch up to this, but to assume that Ron Turner will not
adjust accordingly seems a bit of a stretchs. I would have assumed that
teams would have stopped completely selling out for the run bye now .. But
it still has not happened yet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
4) Very nice job by the offensive line in pass protection. They're still
susceptible to stunts on the line, though, and there were a number of times
the Seahawks managed to bring pressure without the blitz.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
I have no complaints about the pass protection. He will face occasional
pressure every game, so long as he is not contantly running for his life.
Once he eventually faces enough of it, he might start setting up quick
screens to exploit some of the blitzes and whatnot. I am still concerned
about the run blcking, however.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
5) Nice job by the receivers but there were some drops that may eventually
cost them if they continue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
There were a few definite drops, but that has not been the patters so far
and hopefully does not continue
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
Defense
2) Urlacher interfered on 3rd and goal from the 6 in the first quarter. It
might have been a different game had they scored the TD, there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------
I did not see that .. Looked like pretty good coverage and it was just a
pass that Hassleback tried to force because the coverage was tight
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
3) Matt Hasselback obviously had a rough game. I think there were times
when his emotions got the best of him. He also wasn't particularly accurate
and made some dumb decisions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
Not used to that kind of pressure either. . We need to get most of the
credit for that
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
5) The Seahawks simply didn't make plays tonight. They didn't take
advantage of what opportunities they got, dropping passes at crucial times
and doing stupid things. Not a good game for them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------
Agreed, but then again we left some points on the field as well. We had 1st
and goal at the 1 yd line and had to settle for 3. Clark dropped a sure TD
and we really stopped being aggressive towards the middle of the 3rd quarter
offensively.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
Miscellaneous
2) I watched this game expecting the Bears to have been very dominant. But
the truth is that it was the stupid turnovers that made the difference.
Thos 10 points were the difference between 10-3 and 20-3 at half. Add the
first TD drive in the second half and the Seahawks were in trouble too deep
to get out of. I have to think that this Seattle loss was largely their own
doing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
The turnovers definitely decided the game tonight, however you act as we did
not CAUSE them but were merely the recipient of a couple of gifts. Those
were both the result of good defense. Secondly, even if they scored more
points, there was never any tangible proof that they could stop our offense
tonight .. At least not consistently.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
6) I'll tell you what really bothered me about this game. Seattle reminds
me way too much of the Carolina Panthers last year. Hasselback reminds me a
lot of Delhomme. The Bears beat Carolina, a very good team, the first time
during the season and Carolina didn't play particuly well. They then came
back to beat them in the playoffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
I do agree that a game with Seattle would be different a 2nd time, however
if we have home field advantage then I like our chances againsta dome team.
Furthermore, we barely beat Caroline last year the first time as opposed to
how we handled Seattle this game on both sides of the ball. Caroline was a
bigger, more dominant team and not one that is pampered by their division or
their stadium either. Seattle may very well be in the playoffs again this
year, hwoever they do not look even close to last year's team right now and
are definitely benefitting by the division they play in.
