First of all, thank you.

But it is important to note that the Bears said they are following the NFL's
code of conduct, because really, unless you're talking things that happen
while you're with the team, they have very little recourse.

The Vikings DID NOT suspend Dwight Smith. They deactivated him for the game
as a punishment for an event that happened days before. Aside from really
skirting the terms of the CBA, it made a point, and the Vikings have had
major problems with players running amok and giving the team black eyes.
What good would it do to deactivate a player six months later?

Being a high-character guy means a different thing in football than it does
in other places. He could absolutely be a high-character player in every
situation the team sees him in. Latrell Sprewell was described that way even
after the PJ choking incident.

It's ridiculous for this story to then state that it's unclear if the Bears
were aware of the court file. Yeah, I'm sure their human resources
department didn't bother to keep up with the case and that Angelo really
just doesn't give a crap.

Angelo went on to note, "Situations
like these are embarrassing to our football team and
create unnecessary distractions. We will continue to
follow the NFL's personal conduct policy, which
retains jurisdiction on this issue."

It remains uncertain if Bears officials were familiar
with the details of the court file before issuing the
team's statement. NFL officials could not be reached
Tuesday for comment.
