Can the Bears Go Undefeated???
By Vic Waldron
With the Bears dominance thus far on both sides of the ball talk has
begun on whether or not they can actually run the table and have the
first perfect season since the '72 Dolphins. As we all know N-F-L stands
for "Not For Long" which is why several teams have flirted with
perfection only to be denied at the end. Regardless of how good a team
is it is very difficult winning 19 games in a single season. The Bears
look great now but you never know when they might get tripped up. The
following list of "pitfall" games for the Bears are provided for your
entertainment only.
*Potential Pitfall Games in the Bears Quest for Perfection*
/1. Week 6 at Arizona/: Matt Leinart will be the opposing QB and he
managed to light up the Bears during the preseason. Combine that with
the Bears dismal history on Monday nights and..........
.......Let's be real here. The only reason why this game is listed is
because every /next game /will be at the top of the list. Looking ahead
is always dangerous.
/2. Week 12 @ New England/: The Bears would presumably come into this
game 11-0 so playing on the road with NE looking for the big takedown
could result in a loss. Add in the fact that Bill Belichick is a great
game planner and Brady and Co. don't make many mistakes on offense the
Bears D could see few opportunities for big plays. If the Bears come
back home in December 12-0 I'm putting my money down on 16-0.
/3. Week 10 @ NY Giants/: 9-0, the Meadowlands, likely a prime time game
thanks to the NFL's new flex scheduling. The Giants have more weapons on
offense than any other team the Bears will play down the stretch so they
might just give up.......17 points in this one. The Giants looked good
in a 19-3 win against the Redskins but looked horrible in their pasting
by the Seahawks. Who knows which Giants team will show up?
/The rest:/
Week 14 @ St. Louis: Looking good at 4-1, Monday night, will be gunning
to be the spoiler. What? They lost to the 49ers?? Never mind.
Week 7 BYE: Gotta watch out for that ever dangerous "Bye" on the
schedule every year.
Week 16 @ Detroit: Bears have historically had difficulties winning in
Detroit. Then again that was before Jon Kitna.
Week 17 vs. Green Bay: B-R-E-T-T F-A-R-V-E.
Week 13 vs. Minnesota: This game will determine the winner of the NFC
North. I mean, how many games the Bears will win the division by.
Week 11 @ NY Jets: Only because it's a road game.
Week 9 vs. Miami: Two NFC North castoff QBs on the same team? I'm trembling.
Week 15 vs. Tampa: You heard it here first, it will be 7 below zero in
Chicago for this game and that's /without /the wind chill.
Week 8 vs. 49ers: I don't think so.
