((( I was thinking about blogging this, but Vic beat be to the punch... so I
figured I might as well post it at least)))
*A Breif State of the Bears from the ... Crow's Nest?*
6 and 0. Roughly a 3rd of the way to the Bears ultimate goal, and they
sit undefeated at .... 6 and 0.
As most of you know, since about, oh... this season's game four destruction
of the Seattle Seahawks, I've been lean'n over the bow of the 19 & 0 ship,
tell'n everyone who'll listen that 'aint nobody gonna beat our Bears. N
oooooo body!! '
And then came the Monday Nighter in the desert. All of a sudden, every now
and again, I'm getting these flashbacks of that film... what's it called?
Where those guys are leaning over the bow of that big, beautiful, *
unsinkable* ship... oh yeah, the Titanic. I know, I know, I sound like
someone who has a bad case of that Bi-polar illness; up one big wave, only
to come back down the other side.... look'n for that iceberg. *What are you
freak'n talking about* *, you freak'n idiot?!**?,* you might ask? Ok,
here's a few icebergs floating around in my personal ocean of optimism:
*Offensive play calling*
**
Yes, Rex looked .... bad. Really bad. But come on, he's still shaking off
large globs of rookieness. He hasn't even started a full season's worth of
games in his entire career (I'm still going with that line, even though I
haven't the slightest idea of how close he actually is to that '16 game
started' mark. It just helps make a point.. any point, really). So, yeah,
he's gonna have *those* outings... but where was the coaching to rein him
in? I'm sure the Bears (or was it Angelo) wanted to show the world on the
Monday night stage how right they were to stick with Grossman. But hey,
there comes a time when you gotta tell the kid to get a grip and look for
the 5 or ten yarder a little more consistently. I was really disappointed
with the coaching in this game with regards to the play calling, and
I REALLY HOPE there's a lesson learned on their part. Yes, and Rex's too,
for that matter.
*Team of Destiny?*
Ok, when I started this post, I had jotted down this issue after I had heard
Lovie make the remark after the game. Now that I'm getting back to it, and
after hearing Lovie's explanation of said remark, I feel a little better
about it now. But it still sits uneasy in the pit of my stomach. Yeah, I
know that **I've** changed my middle name to 'Bears Team of Destiny' and
even though I now have those exact words *tattooed *across my chest (and
slightly around my armpit - I think the guy was a little hung-over), that's
perfectly ok, because I'm a fanatically fanatical fan. However, that does
not mean that the head coach of said team of destiny can utter those word in
front of the national media. Does that not blow the 'one game at a time'
mission statement out of the water? Let's hope Lovie's explanation holds
up, or the winning streak won't.
*Mike Brown.*
As Vic has mentioned in his blog. The Bears need to plug this iceberg
gouge STAT. (Anyone know exactly what STAT stands for? Anyone? Really don't
have a clue, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms..) Mike Brown has been
called the defensive QB, the leader of that incredible pack of beasts.
*POOF*.... gone. And now I hear we're bringing in players, who've been
sitting on their couch for the past few Sundays, that might have to be
thrown right into action? That, my friends, is a scary thought. The good
news is we should have a couple of game at home against less than adequate
teams to help groom someone into that gaping vacancy. However it's done, it
needs to *GET DONE*, because I'd hate to see this defense get undone because
of it. (ok, I'm *done* with this one)
*The Minnesota Vikings*
I hate these guys. I hate em. Why? (Besides their fans?) Because, even
though we all know they'll never win a Superbowl, or maybe even a late
playoff game, they have always been a thorn in our sides. Now, they've
weathered a pretty formidable first half of the season (Upcoming NE game not
withstanding) with only 2 losses. That brings them into the easiest 2nd half
schedule of the year for any team. Let's take a gander, shall we? After NE,
they have: SF, Miami, Zona, *BEARS*, Det, Jets, GB, and StL. They have NE
at home, so if they manage to win that, they May only lose one more game (to
us).... The Vikes with only 3 losses? While the Bears schedule is starting
to head into cold, uncharted, iceberg filled waters; The three game East
coast road trip, and then 3 more games (Vikes, Rams, Bucs) against teams
that are already showing they're better than expected, or getting back to
form. Hey, now listen here, I aint say'n.... I'm just say'n...
That's about all the 'bergs on my radar screen... of course Vic pointed a
couple floating hazards of his own. But you know what? Maybe this Bears
team is just like a big ol' impenetrable battleship, dish'n out more
punishment than it could ever sink it. Taking all comers and vanquishing
them to the depths. I'd like to think so. (in fact, I do!) Let's just
hope no one falls asleep at their watch... because you never know what's
over the next wave.
S.S. Destiny... Full steam ahead!!
