You know what would be funny. JA offers Rex an extension while Briggs is
still looking for a new deal.

And I do, too. (1) I will be willing to bet that if he does not go down
with an injury, Rex WILL make the Pro Bowl. The ceiling is high--we saw
that enough to know what he is capable of. The floor was shaky at points
last year, and I suspect Rex, who's as tough and teachable as the very best
QBs, will shore up those weak spots. If he eliminated them last year (or at
least was not terrible in a game or two), I think he would have challenged
for the PB last year. Might of lost out to Brees, but in my book, he
certainly had a better all around season than Tony Romo.
(2) This is one more reason not to break the bank on Briggs. If Rex does
improve this coming year to the level of a franchise QB, you need to ink him
to a long term deal, which should be more lucrative than you #2 LB. But I'm
not sure the Bears could afford it, not with Tommie Harris next in line for
a big raise.
