Bears camp update: Hass impresses

BOURBONNAIS -- An uneventful Friday morning practice for the Bears saw
receiver Mike Hass continue to impress and Devin Hester continue to
rest.
Hass, a practice-squad player for the Bears last season, snatched
every ball in sight, as he has done for most of camp. The team is
likely to keep six receivers, meaning Hass is in dogfight for the last
spot. Brandon Rideau is his main competition.
Hass is used to overcoming long odds; he went from a walk-on as an
Oregon State freshman to the Biletnikoff Award winner as the nation's
top receiver after his senior year in 2005.
"Hopefully I can do well enough where they don't want to cut me
because they see what type of player I am,'' Hass said.
Hester's sore right hamstring kept him from practicing in the morning
morning, and it was doubtful he'd practice Friday night.
On a positive note, rookie running back Garrett Wolfe looked good
doing some individual running drills on a side field. Wolfe has been
kept out with a hamstring injury.
The list of veterans taking the morning off included Lance Briggs,
Brian Urlacher, John Tait, Mike Brown, Alex Brown and Tommie Harris.
Backup quarterback Brian Griese didn't throw the ball much.
On the field, Kyle Orton was sharp in zipping a few passes to Hass.
Rookie receiver Drisan James made the play of the day when he went up
and grabbed a touchdown over cornerback Greg Fassitt.
