[CBFF] - Part of this must be subterfuge

WTF? Moose looks like a keeper? That can't be. I've got no problem with
Berrian leaving, but he should take Moose with him. I've got to believe
that the front office is trying to create some leverage to sign Berrian
to a lower contract. Or maybe the Bears are content with both of them
ending up as Vikings.

Briggs, Berrian could be goners

Dec. 14, 2007

On the Bears’ free-agent front, the latest we’re hearing on OLB *Lance
Briggs* and WR *Bernard Berrian*, the team’s top two players eligible
for free agency, is that the team is leaning toward letting both of them
walk. We hear the Bears believe second-year LB *Jamar Williams* could
very effectively man the weak side at a lot more reasonable cost than
what it would take to re-sign Briggs, who they feel is asking for more
than he’s worth, his rock-solid ’07 season notwithstanding. Team sources
tell us the Bears feel the same way about Berrian and that they are
preparing to primarily revolve their passing game around the very
promising talents of University of Miami (Fla.) products *Devin Hester*
and *Greg Olsen*, with veteran *Muhsin Muhammad* looking like a keeper
at the “Z” spot for at least another season. Word is the Bears are
increasingly intrigued by the pass-catching potential of Hester, who
showed impressive glimpses late in the team’s Week 14 loss to the Redskins.
