Oops. I meant "defense wears down because offense CAN'T stay on the field." Once again tonight, about half the Bears possessions are three-and-outs. sigh
Matt Langschwager <matthewindc at yahoo.com> wrote: I was going to comment on the Bears' constantly collapsing in the fourth quarter, given the past three games, but they had a pretty good fourth quarter stretch going from Green Bay up to Denver (of course, September's 4th quarters were utterly atrocious). Instead, I'll note the Bears inability to play a full sixty minute game. They can usually keep it close for a while, but often the opponent pulls away.
Decent Bears football:
SD - first 3 quarters
KC - first 3 quarters
DAL - first half
DET - first three quarters
GB - second half
MIN - good Offensive game overall; D gives up too many big plays
PHI - final two minutes
DET - third quarter
OAK - final five minutes
SEA - first half
DEN - fourth quarter and OT
NYG - first half
WAS - no good football here
MIN - first half
Of course, sometimes (well, most of the time) "good football" is registered in spite of offensive malaise. Whether the defensive was excellent or the opponent was as mediocre as Chicago, well, that's about 50/50. This unscientific analysis analysis leans towards the classic "defense wears down because offense stays on the field" hypothesis, and our offense is so abysmal, I'm at a loss for where to even start. So I don't have any solutions, just throwin' all this out there. And feel to correct me on any of the above game takes.
Matt
