It's because 1) Rivera's contract was allowed to run out, allowing a lateral
move without any repercussions, and that 2) he was the DC of one of the, if
not *the* best defense in the league, and 3) may easily be offered a lot
more $$ than what the Bears would ever consider offering him, especially
since they have to squeeze blood out of the proverbial turnip just to try
and get Lovie signed.

Pretty obvious if you ask me...
