Grossman was able to move away from the pressure wherever it came from
before. I remember seeing him move side to side or up to get away from
pressure before last season.

This isn't entirely true. Grossman avoided pressure in previous seasons and
early this year by stepping up in the pocket. He had a real good feel for
exactly when to do it. Unfortunately teams last year stopped him from doing
it by bring pressure up the middle and collapsing the pocket. After that,
Grossman got very uncomfortable. It isn't that he couldn't handle the
pressure. It's that once the middle of the pocket was taken away, he didn't
know what to do.
My first instinct was to say they should get a better interior offensive
line. I still wonder if they shouldn't be looking a little more
aggressively into doing that. The Bears are, maybe correctly, approaching
it differently. Pep Hamilton is teaching Grossman to slide to the left or
the right when he can't step up. That's part of what they means when they
say they are working on his "mechanical problems". Hopefully that will
solve a lot of problems. Once he knows where to go under pressure he'll be
more likely to be able to set his set and stop throwing off of his back
foot.
