 Super Bowl XLII Odds

By CappersMall.com on 20 June, 2007
The Indianapolis Colts are the defending Super Bowl champs, but Vegas
oddsmakers <http://www.thegreek.com/dw/sportsbook.asp?ap=A94193> like the
title chances of the rival New England Patriots better for the upcoming
season.

The Pats are currently pegged as the 5/1
favorites<http://www.thegreek.com/dw/sportsbook.asp?ap=A94193>to come
out on top in Super Bowl XLII, while the Colts are just behind them
on the list at 11/2 odds. New England will have revenge on their minds this
season, as they were knocked off 38-34 by the Colts in last year's AFC
Championship Game. Tom Brady and company added receivers Randy Moss and
Donte' Stallworth to the roster in hopes of creating a bit more offense.

Another AFC team is third on the odds list - the San Diego Chargers. Philip
Rivers' team went a league-best 14-2 during the regular season last year,
but were bounced 24-21 by the Patriots in the Divisional Playoffs. That loss
cost head coach Marty Schottenheimer his job; Norv Turner is now the man in
charge of the Chargers' success for the upcoming season. Vegas oddsmakers
have San Diego pegged at 6/1 title
odds<http://www.thegreek.com/dw/sportsbook.asp?ap=A94193>
.

The first NFC team on the list is last year's Super Bowl loser, the Chicago
Bears. The Bears pounded the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game
in January, but fell 29-17 to the Colts in the big game. Chicago is listed
at 8/1 odds <http://www.thegreek.com/dw/sportsbook.asp?ap=A94193> to win
this year.

Next up are another Colts playoff victim from last year, the Baltimore
Ravens. The Ravens managed to score just six points against Indianapolis in
the Divisional Playoffs, wasting a strong effort by their defense. Baltimore
won the AFC North division by five games over the Cincinnati Bengals and the
Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006, and they added running back Willis McGahee to
the roster for 2007. They're at 10/1 championship odds.

The Saints surprised with a 10-6 record in 2006, and they knocked the
Philadelphia Eagles out of the playoffs before falling to the Bears. Another
solid year by Drew Brees and progress by Reggie Bush gets them into
contention again; they're at 12/1 title odds.

The Bengals are listed with 15/1 championship odds right now, despite the
fact that they missed the playoffs altogether last year. Cincinnati has had
all sorts of problems keeping their players out of legal trouble, but if
they can reduce those off-field distractions they could be a contender
again. The Seattle Seahawks, who won the NFC West division last year over
the Rams with a record of just 9-7, are also pegged at 15/1.

The Dallas Cowboys lost a heartbreaker to the Seahawks last year on Wild
Card Weekend, and they'll be led by new head coach Wade Phillips this
season; oddsmakers have them listed with 20/1 Super Bowl odds right now.
That puts them just ahead of the Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, New
York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Pittsburgh Steelers, who are all
currently listed at 25/1 odds to win the '08 Super Bowl.

The New York Giants made the playoffs with just an 8-8 record in the NFC
last year; they're listed at 30/1 to bring home the title this year. The
Carolina Panthers, who lost a playoff berth on a tiebreaker to the Giants,
are also pegged at 30/1. The St. Louis Rams (40/1), San Francisco 49ers
(45/1), Green Bay Packers (50/1), and Minnesota Vikings (50/1) are next on
the chart, and the Washington Redskins are pegged at 50/1
odds<http://www.thegreek.com/dw/sportsbook.asp?ap=A94193>too.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went just 4-12 in 2006, and finished with the
second-worst record in the NFC. The Bucs, though, are still at respectable
60/1 odds to win the Super Bowl this year. That puts them ahead of Vince
Young and the Tennessee Titans, who surged to an 8-8 record in 2006 but are
well back at 70/1 odds to become the champs.

Each of the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City
Chiefs, and Miami Dolphins are near the bottom of the Vegas Super Bowl odds
list at 75/1 right now, but that still puts them ahead of the current four
bottom feeders. The Cleveland Browns and the Houston Texans are back at
100/1 odds, and the Detroit Lions are listed at 125/1 odds. At the absolute
bottom? The Oakland Raiders, at a longshot
150/1<http://www.thegreek.com/dw/sportsbook.asp?ap=A94193>.
