I think the disagreement here comes from the terminology. In my vernacular, the Lions have "gaping holes to fill;" the Bears have "concerns about depth at key positions."

To me, a gaping hole means being forced to start an inadequate player in a game, like the Saints' Fred Thomas, or whoever the Lions started opposite Dre Bly. Even if every Bear leaves that we think will, I'd feel comforable with our starting lineups. Where's the gaping hole at DE? I see Brown, O-Gun, and Anderson, and they're not going anywhere. Could we use a fourth? Sure, but I don't think we'll be terrible at that position next year if we don't pick up anyone else. As for running back, it sounds like you believe that without TJ, and only Cedric and AP, we're guaranteed to be in the bottom 10 in rushing next season. That's what a gaping hole leads to. I respectfully disagree.

If the general sentiment is that the Bears have no gaping holes, then
I think need to take a Bears sabbatical so I can go get some
perspective. I see plenty of gaping holes in the offensive line, at
wide receiver, at defensive end, and if the TJ goes, then at running
back. Special teams is the only unit that has no needs. In fact,
they should just leave it the hell alone.

I'm going to go take a few weeks off and then maybe I'll be able to
pull my head out of my own gaping hole.
