I understand now that it might not be possible to negotiate a long-term deal
because of Briggs's line in the sand, but what I do not understand is why
there is no indication that the Bears did not try again. I mean, just
because it failed last off-season, does not mean it will this off-season. I
guess I would have liked to hear from Angelo that they were still willing to
negotiate. That, to me, would really call Briggs's bluff. But as it is, it
seems as if the Bears ONLY want him for next year. Do they just want him as
a hired gun for another SB run with more or less the same nucleus in tact?
Or what?
Only thing I can figure is that things have deteriorated with Briggs to the
point where the Bears really do not want him long term. Any other guesses
here (because guess is all we can do)?
