Should be a good test. This should have been the Super Bowl, except for a coaching implosion.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. â The Bears will open the 2007 season Sept. 9 with a
nationally-televised Sunday afternoon showdown against the Chargers in
San Diego, the NFL announced Monday.
The game, which is scheduled to kick off at 3:15 p.m. (CT) on Fox, will
pit defending division champions that finished the 2006 campaign with
the best records in their respective conferences.
The Bears (13-3) advanced to Super Bowl XLI by defeating the Seahawks
and Saints in the NFC playoffs, but the Chargers (14-2) were eliminated
in the AFC divisional round by the Patriots.
The contest will be the first as Chargers head coach for Norv Turner,
brother of Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner. It'll also mark the
debut of former Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera as a Chargers
defensive assistant.
The Bears-Chargers game was part of a partial list of the leagueâs TV
schedule that was disclosed at the annual NFL owners meetings in
Phoenix. The rest of the Bearsâ regular-season slate is expected to be
revealed in mid-April.
In addition to facing NFC North rivals Detroit, Green Bay and Minnesota
at home and on the road, the Bears are slated to host the Broncos,
Chiefs, Cowboys, Giants and Saints while visiting the Eagles, Raiders,
Redskins and Seahawks.
In other Week 1 games, the Colts will host the Saints on Thursday night,
Sept. 6 in Indianapolis and the Giants will visit the Cowboys in the
Sunday night opener on NBC. The first week of action will conclude with
a Monday Night Football doubleheader on ESPN featuring the Ravens at the
Bengals and the Cardinals at the 49ers.
A Thanksgiving tripleheader will feature the Packers at Lions (Fox),
Jets at Cowboys in a game pitting Thomas Jones against his brother
(CBS), and the Colts at the Falcons (NFL Network).
