Vic just made me aware of the fact my referring to Hester as a 'boy'
was perceived as a racial epitaph by some.

I'm may not be anywhere near as congenial as Jim.

My use of the word "boy" in that context was entirely a reference to
the fact that he is young, immature and yes, stupid.  If he was as
pasty as Woody Allen, I'd still call him a 'boy'.

If, as your read that, you did so with a southern, Mississippi
burning, dumb ass cracker inflection in your mind, I suggest you go
back and read it without.

For my part, I'll make a concerted effort to choose my words more
carefully so that folks aren't hearing something I'm not saying.  I
find it difficult to apologize when I do something wrong and even
more-so when somebody pulls-out a meaning that wasn't intended.
