Staying put
Defensive end Alex Brown is unhappy about his loss of playing time to Mark
Anderson, but the two-time Pro Bowl alternate is not agitating to get out of
town. He said Wednesday he and his agent asked the Bears for permission to
look for a trade, though the team is in no hurry to let him leave.
"[The Bears] don't want to get rid of me," Brown, 27, said in a satellite
radio interview. "I just want to see what else is out there."
The Bears have indicated they will listen if another team makes a must-take
offer for Brown, but they believe Brown is a solid player at a key position
in their system. Were it not for the surprise emergence of rookie rush
specialist Anderson in 2006, Brown would not be looking.
"I really, really enjoy where I'm at," Brown said. "I love the city of
Chicago. I love the team. It's just that opportunities come up, and if I'm
able to
get an opportunity somewhere else, that would be fine. If I'm playing here
next year, I'll give it everything I have, just like I always do."
Coach Lovie Smith is pleased with Brown's work this off-season.
"Alex has been working out very hard with our program," he said. "We'll see
him there this weekend working out with us [at mini-camp]."
