Mississippi cornerback Trumaine McBride became the Bears' fourth 2007
NFL draft choice to come to terms when he agreed Tuesday to a
four-year deal.
McBride, chosen in the seventh round as the 221st pick overall, joins
running back Garrett Wolfe and defensive backs Kevin Payne and Corey
Graham under contract.
Still unsigned are first-round pick Greg Olsen, second-rounder Dan
Bazuin, third-rounder Michael Okwo, fourth-rounder Josh Beekman and
seventh-rounder Aaron Brant.
McBride, who is from the same Mississippi high school as Bears guard
Terrence Metcalf, started 34 consecutive games at right cornerback
over his final three years at Ole Miss.
McBride intercepted four passes, had five tackles for loss and one
blocked kick in college.
•The NFL has aligned with affiliated groups to address medical care
for former players.
Commissioner Roger Goodell told teams at the league meetings in
Nashville that the NFL, NFL Players Association, NFL Retired Players
Association, NFL Alumni Association, NFL Charities and Pro Football
Hall of Fame had formed an alliance to coordinate medical services.
The objectives are better identification of players in need,
arrangements with facilities for players to obtain affordable care,
providing players with education and guidance on obtaining medical
care, and ensuring availability of affordable assisted-living
facilities.
