Actually, most rookies practice under some kind of special injury agreement that guarantees them a certain amount of money if they're injured (although it's probably not the same kind of money that a contract will guarantee).

I'm glad the Bears are doing it but I do kind of wonder what the hurry is.
In truth, it may be to the player's advantage. As small as the odds are, if
they get hurt the Bears are probably on the hook for some money.
On the other hand, maybe that's the reason. I'm sure they want the rookies
to be secure and practicing hard, not worrying about injury.
