*Read this today at cbfans.com. It's kind of an angry version of Tom's
game comments. Gotta tell, there's not much here with which I disagree.

---------------------------------------------------------
This organization deserves condmenation today*
1. Starting with Brian Griese. 4 interceptions. 3 in the end zone. It
was an "effort" that was every bit as bad as anything Rex Grossman
produced this season. He should crucified in the press today.
2. Ron Turner comes next. The offense was out of sync all day. They had
almost no rhythm, no plan - nothing. They looked like they were playing
their first pre-season game today. The Bears are a running team coming
off the bus? What did they have - 15 carries all day between Benson and
Peterson?
3. Bob Babich. Timid defensive game plan today. I can understand it to a
point - Jerry Angelo's failure to secure a remote iota of depth at CB
forced them to have 5'9" rookie Trumaine McBride covering Roy Williams -
but they needed a very aggressive game plan today. Instead, the Bears
rush 4 - it worked in the first half, then the d-line decided to stop
playing football. These guys are LISTLESS these days.
4. Dez Clark. He was awful today.
5. Brian Griese - got to mention him again. His "day" today was a
startling reminder that the Bears HAVE to take a QB next April, probably
in the first round. Griese should be back...b/c they have nothing else
on their roster. If they believed in Orton, they'd have him as the #2 QB.
6. Tait and Fred Miller were HORRIBLE today. Griese was horrible, but the
inept play of the OT's didn't help.
7. Hey look!! Another awful drop by Bernard Berrian.
8. Jerry Angelo. Wow - the mistakes he's made are coming home to roost
in a BIG way. Neglecting the offensive line in past drafts, missing
HORRIBLY on key first round picks Rex Grossman and Cedric Benson,
replacing Harris with Archuletta, jettisoning Ian Scott and Fonzie
Boone, failing to secure a quality group of wide receivers, failing to
provide depth for the Bears in the secondary, missing BADLY on Danneal
Manning - the list goes on.
9. Lovie Smith. The garbage we're seeing on the field - the lack of
execution on both sides of the ball, the failure to be ready to play two
huge games in the last 3 weeks AT HOME AGAINST DIVISIONAL OPPONENTS -
comes back to him. There's little that can or will be done - the size of
his contract dictates that. But, after watching what we've seen thus far
in huge games, I think it's becoming safer and safer to say that he
won't get another contract from the Bears. His defensive scheme isn't
working, he's doing a terrible job of selecting coaches, and most of his
player rotations are backfiring. If his track record continues, the same
can be said of Jerry Angelo as well. When Virginia joins her husband and
father in the great beyond, I think we'll see more changes than one
might have initially imagined.
10. With all of the talk about the offensive line, running back and QB,
let's not forget that the defense has collapsed. Sure, they only gave up
16 points, but the Lions' offense hadn't played very well the last
couple of weeks. Essentially, they got well against the Bears and did
everything they needed to to win. The sad, sad thing here is that the
Bears have SO many needs going into next year. They're literally
DESPERATE for:
a. Offensive line
b. Quarterback
c. Running Back
d. Wide Receiver
e. Nose tackle AND, perhaps, defensive end.
f. Safeties
g. Depth at CB
This roster isn't nearly as talented as many of us would have liked to
think. What we saw today was more than a product of injuries, it was a
product of an organization making poor decisions, coaches falling down
on the job and players mailing it in.
