> Sprained knee makes Olsen game-time decision for opener

What a huge relief.

A couple of comments.

* The weird thing is that in watching the tape, his right knee appeared to
buckle, and then I let it go forward and realized it was his left. As was
pointed out before, it just hit the ground, no real twisting. Strange
injury. Patella tendon, maybe? Then it would feel internal and scary but not
be as serious...

* To everyone who complained about how lackluster the team looked... Give me
a break. The starters played THREE PLAYS. Even if you're judging the
backups, they played much of the first quarter against Cleveland's
first-team defense and the Chicago second-team defense came in for the third
series and Cleveland still had at least some starters in.
It was evident the coaching staff thought very little of this game, so it's
hard to see anyone not on the bubble (like Hass) or in a serious fight for
playing time (like Olsen) putting forth anything close to a top effort.

* I tried really, really hard to care about the second half, but after about
the third quarter, there were typically only about three or four people on
any given play who made the team. McBride and Graham and Garay and Adams and
Jamar Williams got long looks. McBride and Graham got me some information (I
still just love Graham), and Williams definitely looked like the man of the
group, but jeez, against another set of third-teamers, it was just hard to
use any of that info.

* I love almost all the calls Lovie & Co. made on the roster. Finding a way
to keep Graham and Hass is chief among them. Bazuin on IR is a smart move
since he's developing slowly and there are three starting-quality DEs
playing already.

* Danieal Manning's boneheadedness on the kickoff return is troubling.
Cleveland's punt return for a TD is less so but still worth noting.

* For all their faults, I really appreciate the referees, the instant replay
system and the video coverage after seeing the horrid display of all three
of those in the Arizona-BYU game on Saturday.

* I am SO PSYCHED for the season. I can't WAIT for San Diego!!!!!!!!
