Steve, I don't think anybody subscribes to a theory. We're just
hypothesizing as to why the offense has been so anemic. Second, I don't
think we're referring to "something special" so much as we are different
looks and formations.
Example: The John St Clair TD. The Bears lined-up in a wing-T formation
(3 backs in the backfield and an additional O-lineman reporting eligible
as a TE). As I understand it, the wing-T is something Papa Bear would
have used back in the day. Who knows what other looks Turner hasn't
shown if we already know he's got retro formations in there.
On the one hand, the execution has been deplorable. On the other sits
the possibility that Ron Turner hasn't opened up the playbook because 1)
he's still waiting for his offense to pull it's collective head out of
it's ass AND 2) he doesn't plan to show all of the wrinkles of his
offense this early in the going. Who knows what formations he's waiting
to employ; those playbooks are several Bibles thick and I'm hardpressed
to believe that he's shown us much through 2 games, either by design or
necessity.
