Weird. I like a Dan Pompei article. I think Griese will help cut down on
mistakes, but Pompei makes a good point in this article about the play of
the offensive tackles. I've bolded it below.

Griese's steady hand right one to play

Switch to heady veteran was in the cards for Bears

Almost everyone around the NFL agrees Brian Griese for Rex Grossman is the
right move for the Bears at this juncture. But whether the Bears are solving
their quarterback problem remains a subject for debate.
"Griese has been in the position everybody loves to be in," one NFC
personnel man said. "If he has to play for an extended period of time,
everybody might be hollering for the other guy. Griese is smart and heady,
but he doesn't have a strong arm. He won't do a lot to open up the running
game.
"Maybe they'll be initially better with Griese, but not necessarily long
term. He can give them a spark, anyway."
What Griese should do better than Grossman is avoid making the unforgivable
mistakes that cost the Bears games.
"I think they'll get better with Griese by playing to the strength of the
team, which is their defense," said a defensive coordinator who has faced
the Bears. "They'll let him manage the game, which Grossman didn't do well.
They'll run the ball and run play-action."
Grossman has either fumbled or thrown an interception once for every
16.5times he has dropped back to pass (attempts plus sacks). Griese
has
committed a turnover once every 20.31 times he has dropped back to pass.
"Grossman's ability to take care of the ball is the issue," the defensive
coordinator said. "He takes some chances sometimes that you don't want him
to take."
A second defensive coordinator had a different perspective on Grossman.
"The QB is not at fault; they can't protect him," he said. "We thought
Grossman was as tough as we've seen the last few years. The kid was trying
to survive. He just got his butt kicked over the last three games. Both
their tackles are struggling. Griese is going to get a rude welcome."
One defensive player who faced the Bears this season said the game plan was
to stop the running game, pressure Grossman and wait for him to make a
mistake. Unfortunately for the Bears, Grossman often made them. And that's
why Griese will be under center Sunday.
