In a draft year that goes tail deep in tailbacks and with Cedric Benson, the
No. 4 overall pick three years ago, proving to be closer to the Rashaan
Salaam/Curtis Enis category than the Walter Payton/Gale Sayers ilk, the
Bears are taking a close

some of the guys who'll be on the draft board three weeks from today.

Jamaal Charles, who like Benson played collegiately at Texas, has
already conducted a private workout with the Bears, as has Tulane's Matt
Forte.  The Bears also have reportedly shown interest in Felix Jones of
Arkansas.

The real question for the Bears is whether to use their first-round pick
(14th overall) on a running back, or whether to wait until a later round.
The smart move might be to wait, since there will be less pressure on the
player to become what Benson has yet to be.  If, however, a guy the Bears
love is unexpectedly still on the board at No. 14, they might pull the
trigger, despite greater needs along the offensive line and at receiver.
