Before addressing his team's draft needs during a Tuesday press
conference, Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo discussed
contract talks, specifically the ones involving Brian Urlacher.

Angelo maintained the stance that the Bears take care of their own first.

"The way we do business is going to continue as what we've always done,"
Angelo said. "We don't negotiate through the media. That's nothing that
we've done or will now do just because a player may be more high-profile.

"There are going to be times when we're not going to be accommodating.
There are going to be times when players aren't going to be happy with
contracts."

Angelo refused to talk specifics about the one-year extension offered to
Urlacher, which includes $5 million up front and an extra $1 million
each year through 2012 provided he participates in 85 percent of the snaps.

When asked about reported trade talks involving Urlacher, Angelo said
nothing has been discussed with other teams. But he referred to such
internal discussions as common during the course of negotiations with
any player, Urlacher included.
