Please don't hate me.

Of course it would please me if Dent was enshrined but I'm not
completely convinced he belongs. One thing you need to do when
considering HoF players is compare them to their peers during the era
that they played in. Dent has longevity on his side and a high career
sack total, but aside from '84 and '85 he was never really the best DE
in the league while he played. White and B. Smith were clearly better
(and in the HoF), plus Howie Long is in the HoF who played mostly
during Dent's tenure. One guy not even in the discussion was arguably
better if you take a close look at his career, that is Chris Doleman,
a player who mostly played in Dent's division.

So is the fourth or fifth best DE during his era a HoFer?? I dunno. I
hope he makes it, but if not, I would not consider it an injustice.
