Matt, I think more than anything, it was the league paying propers to an original franchise that had to start on the road for most of it's first 50 years...

There was some remarks about home uniform colors. The home team has choice of colors and must notify the league prior to the season.

The Bears played in Dallas a few years ago with a 40's style throwback uni with orange jersey's. The current orange jersey came into being the following year and the Bears have worn it once at home in eah of the last three seasons.

They did start wearing the traditional road "whites" for the first home game a few years back and that was heat related. The team thought the road jersey wouldn't be so hot in the early September sun.

  >That would explain the road starts! And now that I know it, it seems so obvious. Thanks >Mike!

>Although the Bears opening at home in 26 of 29 years between '71 and '99 seems more >than coincidental. Perhaps a founding team using its influence? Dunno.

>Matt
