Are Bears going to pick a quarterback in draft? - Chicago Bears

Larry: With greater needs at tackle, guard, wide receiver and maybe
even running back, I'm concerned that the Bears will not pick a
quarterback in the draft. I think not picking a quarterback would be a
mistake. What do you think the Bears will do?

Kevin B.
 Plano, Texas

Kevin: I think there's a good chance that the Bears will select a
quarterback at some point in the draft. General manager Jerry Angelo
addressed the situation during a 50-minute sit-down session with
Chicago media at the NFL Scouting Combine. He said: "We've looked at
that position probably as hard as we've looked at all the positions
that we consider a need or we want to upgrade. We're always looking
for a young quarterback. Ideally you would take one every year, just
to have somebody in the bullpen developing." Jerry went on to say that
he was surprised to learn that more than 10 NFL teams carried only two
quarterbacks at some point during the 2007 season. He revealed that
the Bears have discussed keeping four quarterbacks on their 53-man
roster given the importance of the position coupled with the number of
second-day draft picks that have developed into quality players after
gaining some seasoning.

Larry: What do you think of the Bears drafting Branden Albert? Given
his versatility playing guard and a couple games at tackle for
Virginia, I think he would fit nicely with the Bears.

Nathan
 Normal, Illinois

Nathan: Branden Albert is the top prospect in a very thin crop of
guards and would be a great player for the Bears to pick given his
tremendous athleticism and ability to also play tackle. The Bears love
versatile linemen who can play more than one position due to the
limited number of players permitted on the active roster on game day.
Albert probably isn't someone you would select with the 14th overall
pick in the draft, but he could be a possibility in the second round.

Larry: Who have been players taken with the 14th overall pick in recent drafts?

Carl K.
 Rockford, Illinois

Carl: The last eight players selected with the No. 14 pick have been
CB Darrelle Revis (Jets) in 2007, DT Brodrick Bunkley (Eagles) in
2006, DB Thomas Davis (Panthers) in 2005, DT Tommie Harris (Bears) in
2004, DE Michael Haynes (Bears) in 2003, TE Jeremy Shockey (Giants) in
2002, OT Kenyatta Walker (Bucs) in 2001 and TE Bubba Franks (Packers)
in 2000.
