I'm convinced that Turner has no faith in Orton whatsoever. He limits Orton's reads and throws to the point he's playing in a kiddie offense. Now, maybe Orton can't handle it and Turner's doing what he has to, but maybe Turner has a problem.

Nothing, but the way it has been presented is that "Derek Anderson" is
out there and we need to go get him and insert him as starter.
Assuming Grossman signs elsewhere we'll need a third guy on the roster
anyway. That's not really "rolling the dice" as much as it's a
pragmatic exercise in filling the depth chart.
And I'm not convinced that Orton couldn't make "significant strides
between now and next year." By being higher than the #3 right off the
bat he'll get more reps with the first team offense which will allow
him to better show what he's capable of. I'm not projecting anything,
but he has talent and was considered a first round pick until he
missed nearly half his senior year to injury. Talk about rolling the
dice.
