I just don't see Berrian as franchise tag worthy. He's a good #2 WR but not
a true #1 WR in the NFL, IMO.

I think this is almost a no-brainer. Berrian might be pissed off
initially but ~$8 mil guaranteed is nothing to sneeze at. The extra
year buys you time to see if Hester can be an every down WR (if that
is indeed the plan) and it's great insurance against the declining
Moose.

If there were others out there I might hesitate but I don't see how
our WR corps can be better next season if Berrian is allowed to walk.
If you believe the Bears still have enough talent to be one of the
NFC's best despite the deficiencies (which I think JA believes) this
is not the time to draft a WR as Berrian's replacement.

One point Haugh mentions briefly is the fact that JA fails to mention
the TEs. Clark and Olsen combined for 83 catches, 936 yards, 6 TDs and
a 2 point conversion. By way of comparison, Clark's *best* season with
the Bears was 2006 with 45-626-6 and next on the roster was Gillmore
with 6-38-2. Even factoring in Clark's decline (due to age) the duo
should be even better next season.
