No, LT specifically said that the far right column is the cap effect of
being released.

. In the cap space +/- column, GREEN is cap space saved and RED is cap space
lost if the player is released.

OK, yeah.

I think you are misreading it. If the release Griese all of his prorated
signing bonus accelerates into that cap number (9000000 X 3 = 2.7 million).
That's all dead money for a guy who is no longer on the roster. I have no
clue where that -100000 comes from but I'm going to guess it accounts for
what the Bears will pay him in salary if he stays on the roster (i.e. cap
hit if released - cap hit if he stays). They would, of course, be paying
that money for a player who was contributing, however, so if that's the case
the number is misleading.

To be fair, if they wait until after June 1, its 900000 this year and 1.8
million next year. That spreads it out a bit. Also, he estimated Griese's
bonus as 4.5 million because, as far as I can tell, no one knows what it
really is. Its believed to be in the 4-5 million range.

Bottomline, I still don't think Griese's going anywhere. No matter how you
slice it, that's still a lot to pay.

Tom S.
