Windy City Gridiron by WCG on 1/22/08 Bears personnel including Coach
Lovie Smith have twice been to a game to check out Delaware QB Joe
Flacco(6' 6", 230).
"I've heard they have an interest," Flacco said with a smile. "I heard
they were at the [NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision]
title game to see me play.
"That would be great, to go to Chicago. It's a little cold there, but I
wouldn't worry too much about it."
Bears coach Lovie Smith had a front-row view of Flacco as he fired
passes during the North team's practice, conducted by the Oakland
Raiders staff.
Flacco looked more impressive than the other two QBs on his team--USC's
John David Booty and Michigan's Chad Henne.
"Right now, I'm hearing anywhere from second round to seventh," Flacco
said of his draft stock. "We'll just see what happens."
The majority of prognosticators believe the Bears will use their first
round pick on a QB, most notably Kentucky's Andre Woodson. I can only
assume they are just reading straight from the 'team needs' list and
not putting any extra thought in to it. With Donovan McNabb the only
real option left on the table that would be an improvement it is
looking like we are going to see something close to the same depth
chart next year. What is the point of bringing in a QB who isn't ready
when you are in your window? Depending on how Flacco does at the
combine, the Bears could be looking for him as a later round pick up.
