Will Colvin rejoin Bears linebacking corps? - Chicago Bears

Larry: With the possibility of the Bears not re-signing Lance Briggs,
do you see Rosevelt Colvin returning to Chicago now that he's been
released by the Patriots?

Kevin M.
 Iowa City, Iowa

Kevin: While Rosevelt Colvin was a productive player for Dick Jauron's
Bears several years ago, I don't see the free agent returning to
Chicago. Colvin excelled as an outside linebacker who doubled as a
pass-rushing defensive end for the Bears. But he's better suited to
play in a 3-4 defense like the one the Patriots utilize than Lovie
Smith's 4-3 scheme in Chicago.

Larry: With the lack of success the Bears had running the football
last season, why aren't they trying to sign free-agent running back
Michael Turner?

Stan H.
 Bolingbrook, Illinois

Stan: The Bears are expected to add one running back this offseason to
compete with Cedric Benson for the starting job, and with a very deep
crop of backs in the draft, it makes more sense to go that route than
to throw millions of dollars in guaranteed money at a player who
admittedly has great potential but has never been a regular starter in
the NFL.

Larry: Do you think the Bears may be interested in wide receiver
Justin McCareins, who was recently cut by the New York Jets? Being an
Illinois native, he may come with a "hometown discount."

 Joe P.
 Flemington, New Jersey

Joe: Getting all these questions about Northern Illinois products such
as Michael Turner and Justin McCareins, I'm wondering if Garrett Wolfe
is sending me emails ... I'm sure that Justin McCareins will at least
be among the players the Bears consider to bolster their wide receiver
position. I remember chatting with him at a pre-draft gathering at
Halas Hall when he was entering the NFL in 2001. I know he's from
Naperville, but I'm not so sure he'd be willing to provide a "hometown
discount." As is the case with most free agents, I'm sure that money
will be a key factor in determining where he signs.
