Personally, I think you're giving Angelo far too much credit for the later
round picks.
My theory is this: Angelo (as do most all GM's in the league) knows that
his head is most on the chopping block for the 1st pick and/or pretty much
the first day. I think that is where he makes his presence felt in the war
room... after that, I give most of the credit to the scouting staff who I
believe spends the lions share of time evaluating all of the prospects and
forwarding their recommendations to Angelo. I believe Angelo (as well as
most GM's in the league) tend to defer to their scouts advice after day
one. They may all be on the same page for Day one as well, but if they're
not (GM vs scouts), it's the GM who wins that argument.
Angelo has a great scouting staff IMO. And I know this is all pure
speculation on my part, but I wish he'd let them have free rein for the
first day as well.
