This would be a first offense with the NFL also. Right?

But you can't have a zero tolerance. Nobody in the league has zero tolerance. The Bears have lowered their threshold on jettisoning players, maybe as low as any team in the league.... but after reflection, I think Benson stays for another season unless something else happens, or his attitude stays defiant, or this current issue escalates in one way or another.

OK, but Angelo said repeatedly that after the problems with Tank they were going to pay more attention to character. Now, he would only say that if the incident with Tank was an impetus for change. They tried one way with Tank, they didn't like the results so now they're trying a different way. Only, they're not really trying a different way.

Because Tank got a chance to prove his character to the organization. He failed, and he was gone. These guys, too, will get that chance.
Tank deserved to be let go. These guys coming in from college haven't shown to be consistent troublemakers and they too will get that shot. If they fail, they'll be let go.

Angelo was the one who said character concerns were important and that they learned their lessons from Tank. Then they go into the draft and continue citing character concerns while they pick people with character concerns. Why is it hard to understand that none of this has anything to do with the rest of the league and everything to do with the words that come out of Angelo's mouth compared to the actions he takes?

Yeah, and they gave Tank several chances. So what? Are they not to give anyone any chances anymore, while the rest of the league still can and will?
I'm more than a little lost here.

No, they're not. Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith have consistenly and persistently talked about character after cutting Tank Johnson. They were the ones that made it into an issue but it's only an issue when they want it to be. The attacks are well deserved.

Who wrote this garbage? Giving good players more breaks than crappy players happens EVERYWHERE. The attacks on the Bears are just plain silly. They are no worse than other teams.

Bears will cut, run and posture
The Bears like what they see of running back Matt Forte. Then again, they'd like any running back who (insert predictable, vicious, but accurate Cedric Benson joke), and man, am I going to hate it when the Bears cut Benson after the June 1 deadline.
No, wait, they might cut Benson today after the plodding goof was arrested over the weekend for boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest.
Police pepper-sprayed Benson, a move that seems a little over the top. Police apparently didn't know that the quickest way to get Benson to the ground is simply first contact.
Oh, and if you think I'm kidding about the Bears cutting Benson right now, then you've missed how inconsistent, hypocritical and transparent these Bears wonks are when it comes to the character issue. I mean, they just drafted a guy with recent drug charges, so character only matters if you can't take on a double-team, or average 4 yards a carry. The Idiot Benson is supposed to be rehabbing an injury, and I'm just going to take a wild shot here that boozing it up on the Colorado River isn't part of the therapy. That's all you need to know right there. You can already hear the phony-baloney Bears describing their utter disappointment in Benson, and the only question is not whether they launch the big dope but whether general manager Jerry Angelo tears a hamstring racing for the high moral ground in announcing it.
