So how awful must the rest of the guards be that Brown lasted so long when
he was injured? Why did the Bears release him when they could've seen him in
mini-camps, etc. to assess the injury?

Yes, and when Brown is healthy-the only risk factor-he is still as good a OG
as there is. Chris, his arm was practically hanging out of the socket by
game 4 last season.
