I don't mean to be insensitive - translation: I'm about to say
something insensitive - but unless these mysterious "family issues"
involve his mother force feeding him, I don't want to hear it. I'm
sure they're legitimate but that doesn't them an adequate excuse.

Marcus Harrison anticipates fine for weight gain
By Vaughn McClure

BOURBONNAIS -- Bears nose tackle Marcus Harrison, who reported to camp
14 pounds heavier than targeted, said he expects to be fined for the
weight gain.

Harrison, who weighs 323 pounds, said the team usually fines $453 per
pound but ``I hope they work with me on it.''

The 6-foot-3-inch, second-year player from Arkansas will open training
camp on the non-football injury list.

Assistant head coach Rod Marinelli, who works with the defensive line,
has tried to keep Harrison positive despite the misstep. Asked what
message he delivered to his player, Marinelli playfully responded,
``Don't eat as much.''

Harrison said serious family issues contributed to the weight gain. He
vowed not to let his teammates down again.

Marinelli still has high hopes for Harrison.

``I can't believe he'll be gone for more than a day or so,'' Marinelli
said. ``He's close. It's just with big men, you always have to be
careful. We just want to see progress toward (losing the weight). He's
going to be fine.''
