By JEFF DICKERSON

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Even though Bears defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert
failed to record a single tackle Monday versus Minnesota, it seemed
reasonable to ask Alex Brown how he felt the rookie fared after
watching the tape.

Dumb move by the reporter.

"I didn't say anything to him. He's a rookie. I don't care," Brown
chuckled after a lengthy pause. "I don't care. He needs to come in and
do his job. That's all we want him to do.

“That little pause right there was kind of me saying … I think you
missed the joke."

We got it, and of course Brown wasn't being critical of Gilbert, but
the Bears will likely need to replace Adewale Ogunleye next season in
the starting line-up, and the former third-round pick will probably be
counted in to join the rotation at defensive end. Hopefully a
combination of Gilbert, Mark Anderson, Gaines Adams and maybe Henry
Melton is good enough to compliment Brown in 2010. If not, the joke
could be on the Bears.
